DIGITALISM TOUR 2002


In the Summer of 2002 The Graphics Department Inc. was asked to join
forces with PGI, BMW DesignworksUSA and The Exhibit Shop Inc. to
produce and install 3M Promotional Graphics on to a custom 48 double
wide trailer. The trailer, after months of cutting edge modifications
both to its interior as well as to its exterior, would become a
state-of-the-art high tech mobile theater created to enable Corel
to tour North America to showcase their newly developed graphic
software platform called, Procreate. The "Digitalism Tour", as
it would become known, was planned as a seven month long journey
across the United States and Canada; appearing in over 32 cities
at key industry events and venues.

What made this project unique from a graphics standpoint was the
request by the client, asking us to create a paint like finish for the
exterior shell of the 48 wide trailer using 3M vinyl materials. Due to
the time constraints, leading up to the opening event of the tour at
Mac World in New York City back in July, to actually paint the trailers
exterior was not a viable option. Undaunted, our talented group of
graphic professionals went to work. Embarking on a 3 week R & D
mission to find a solution to save the day our design and production
staff developed a proprietary combination of vinyl substrates that
effectively created a stunning, virtual second skin directly on to the
exterior surface of the trailer. The color of which perfectly matched
BMWs Titanium paint - The same exact shade that BMW used for
the silver finish on their world class motor cars for the 2002 model
year.
